FJSHS has a new addition this year—a greenhouse! With our new greenhouse, science teachers Mrs. Ahrns and Mr. Justice plan to get students involved in using it during their environmental science and 8th-grade science classes. They also are working on starting a garden club after school. Currently, lemon trees and veggies are growing, and they would like to eventually plant some flowers there, too. With the veggies, they plan on making their own salsa!
In the spring, they plan on having a seed-start sale to help those who want to start a garden at home. The district received the Expanding Opportunities grant to fund the greenhouse purchase. There were always plans for a greenhouse with the new building, but it was delayed due to COVID-19. Both classes are excited to bring the joy of nurturing and helping things grow for the student community!
