Attendance Matters!
Why is attendance important?
Consistent school attendance is key to your child's academic success and personal growth. Each day of learning builds on the last, and regular attendance helps your child develop important skills, build confidence, and stay on track with their peers. Let’s work together to make every school day count!
What is chronic absenteeism?
According to ODEW's Ohio's Attendance Guide 2024, students are considered chronically absent when they miss 10% of school at any point of the year. This is an average of missing two days (excused or unexcused) of school each month.
Chronic Absence | Truancy |
Counts ALL absences (excused, unexcused, and suspensions) | Counts ONLY unexcused absences |
Emphasizes impact of missed days and benefits of being present | Emphasizes individual compliance with rules |
Uses preventative, problem-solving, trauma-sensitive strategies | Uses legal, typically more blaming, and punitive solutions |
Cultivates family and student engagement |
